On June 14, 2021, California Trout submitted a petition to the California Fish and Game Commission (Commission) to list Southern California steelhead as an endangered species under the California Endangered Species Act (CESA). The Commission accepted that petition for consideration and Southern California steelhead is now a candidate species. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has initiated a status review for Southern California steelhead and will be making a recommendation.  Casitas continues to monitor the process.
