Casitas Municipal Water District (District) is monitoring the Coronavirus Outbreak (COVID-19) situation closely and taking reasonable precautionary measures to protect the health and safety of our staff and citizens.  Health officials indicate that individuals should consider strategies limiting exposure to this communicable disease such as decreasing social contact.

Lake Casitas Recreation Area

The safety and well-being of our customers and staff remain a top priority. The District is following Federal, State, and Ventura County guidelines with respect to park operations.

Lake Casitas Recreation Area is open daily for vehicles, boating, bicycles, and walk-ins.  Camping is open at 100% to all tent, trailers and RV's.  Please call 805-649-2233 or visit our website to make reservations and view updated information.

Patrons will need to abide by the social distancing guidelines set forth by Federal, State and County officials.

Group areas along with drinking fountains and restrooms will be available for patrons throughout the area. We are encouraging visitors to bring their own hand sanitizer and bottled water for the day.

The Lazy River, Lagoon and Splash pad will be open throughout the summer months of 2022. The Play Structure has been removed and is currently under construction.  There may be limited operations and schedules due to staffing. Please monitor the Casitas Water Adventure website for updates.

District Administration Building Operations

The District Administrative office is open to customers during regular business hours. To prevent the spreading of COVID-19, we encourage customers to conduct business remotely via phone, email, or Internet when possible.

Board Meetings

Casitas Municipal Water District conducts public meetings of its Board of Directors as well as Committees of that Board.  Casitas will provide conference call information for members of the public to join and participate in the meetings remotely.  Please refer to meeting agendas for conference call information.  

In addition, Board Meetings are broadcast live via the internet. Once on the Board of Directors webpage, click on ‘Board Meetings’ and a list of broadcast as well as archived meetings will appear.

The Casitas Municipal Water District’s Board of Directors declared a state of emergency in response to the coronavirus outbreak, commonly referred to as COVID-19. A moratorium of water service shutoffs for nonpayment was in effect from March 2020 to December 2021. Customers are now subject to shutoff for nonpayment, and are encouraged to contact Casitas to set up a payment plan if needed.

The emergency declaration authorizes the following actions designed to protect both the public and District employees:

• Provides the General Manager or designee the sole discretion to adjust district staffing levels in order to meet needs.
• Provides the General Manager or designee the authority to make decisions as to the ongoing operation of the Lake Casitas Recreation Area.

Casitas Municipal Water District follows regulated water treatment and disinfection processes to prevent pathogens, which includes viruses, from contaminating drinking water. The District continuously conducts water quality tests to ensure your water meets rigorous drinking water standards.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have provided the following information regarding COVID-19 and drinking water. In a statement released by EPA on March 11, 2020, the agency said:

“There is no higher priority for EPA than protecting the health and safety of Americans. EPA is providing this important information about COVID-19 as it relates to drinking water and wastewater to provide clarity to the public. The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies. Based on current evidence, the risk to water supplies is low. Americans can continue to use and drink water from their tap as usual.

“EPA has established regulations with treatment requirements for public water systems that prevent waterborne pathogens such as viruses from contaminating drinking water and wastewater. COVID-19 is a type of virus that is particularly susceptible to disinfection and standard treatment and disinfectant processes are expected to be effective.”

The COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking water. Conventional water treatment methods that use filtration and disinfection, such as those in most municipal drinking water systems, should remove or inactivate the virus that causes COVID-19.”
